How To Say Goodbye To Ingrown Hair

Don’t be tempted to use the tweezers to dig up the ingrown hairs because if we don’t do it properly, we are likely to get infected

Many of us would give anything so that the hair on certain parts of our body would not come out again and the skin would remain smooth and beautiful. However, it is always necessary to resort to a hair removal method that can help eliminate hairs and, incidentally, give the dermis a better appearance.

The problem with most of these methods is that they can cause irritation and annoying  ingrown hair. Do you want to know some tricks to avoid them? keep reading!

Why does ingrown hair occur?

For the hair to come out, it must break the thin layer of skin that is over the hair follicle. However, sometimes this is not the case. Some of the reasons may be that the hair is too fine or the skin is too thick. When the hair does not come to the surface, it remains growing underneath and following a direction opposite to its natural growth line. It is right there where what most of us know as ingrown hair appears.

Choose a suitable hair removal method

Removing ingrown hairs is not an easy task, and doing it the wrong way can be painful. Waxing and those techniques that involve pulling the skin are related to different dermatological problems, including ingrown hairs.

It is true that sometimes they are quick techniques, however, it is best to look for another alternative when ingrown hairs become a problem. Opt to use hair removal methods like razors or using depilatory creams. These are less aggressive with the skin and reduce the risk of ingrown hairs. Of course, you can also consider the option of laser hair removal.

Tricks to make hair removal more effective

1. Regular exfoliation

One of the keys to avoiding and fighting ingrown hairs is to have a regular exfoliation that helps remove dead cells that accumulate on the skin and block the follicle. You can use a commercial product, one with natural ingredients, or a horsehair glove in an upward, circular motion. Ideally, repeat this treatment two or three times a week.

2. Daily hydration

This way  we prevent the skin from drying out and starting to suffer from some common skin problems. If you have dry skin, the hairs are more likely to remain buried since they will not be able to go outside due to the “thickness” of the skin.

3. Hot water

This trick is valid before starting hair removal, as it  helps to open the pore and hair removal is more effective. If the hair is already buried, another option is to apply hot water compresses or cloths to soften the skin and help the hair come to the surface.

4. Fried onion

If the hair is already cystic and you are concerned about the pimple that is forming on the skin, sauté a little onion and apply it a little hot on the affected area. What is sought to achieve with this treatment is that the grain explodes and thus frees the hair that is encyst.

5. Avoid using tweezers

When the hair does not come to the surface quickly despite efforts, it is likely that we are tempted to use some type of tweezers to try to remove it. This is a very dangerous practice since, when not done properly, it  can lead to an infection or a problem that will later leave scars.

If for some reason you did it and you are worried about an infection, use glycolic acid to disinfect and heal the pore. If the infection was unavoidable, see a dermatologist as soon as possible.

6. Use an acne medication

In general, ingrown hairs are similar to an acne pimple, especially when they are formed with pus. Another way to get rid of them is by applying an acne medication such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.

This type of remedy, complemented with an exfoliation, can be more than enough to eliminate this problem, since it reduces inflammation and this gives more room for the hair to pass to the surface without problem.

Finally, the most recommended cases like these, is to go immediately to a dermatological consultation, since none of these alternatives can ever replace or displace the recommendations of a professional.
